A bookish detour, a little magic, and something new.

Dear Reader,

I extended my Florida trip for a very bookish reason.

While I was visiting my daughter, I had the unexpected opportunity to meet Disney Legend and Imagineer Joe Rohde at the brand-new Barnes & Noble at Vineland Point. Some opportunities are worth staying a little longer for.

He was there with his new book, Floating Mountains: The Art of Imagining the Impossible, which explores creativity, collaboration, and the work of turning a vision into something real.

I asked him which part had been the hardest to write. His answer? The middles. Funnily enough, that’s actually what the section is called.

He explained that those pages go deep into theory. Important to explore, but not necessarily as exciting as the other stories. He also talked about how recording the audiobook gave him a chance to make that material more engaging through his own voice.

I loved that answer. There’s something reassuring about hearing someone who has helped create extraordinary things talk so honestly about the less dazzling parts of the process.

A warm thank-you to Gregory, Jennifer, Jenna, and the team who made it such a memorable visit. I’m so glad I stayed. And to Storey and Lizzy? There are no words. Just love.
