The Most Beautiful Day

They kept telling me the packaging was beautiful.
Over and over, people would pick up a wrapped bundle, turn it over in their hands, and say it — this is so beautiful. And I would smile and say thank you, because it is. We put real care into every wrap, every ribbon, every little detail that makes a Main Street Chapters bundle feel like a gift before it's even opened.
But here's the irony I kept sitting with all day: what's underneath is even more beautiful.
On September 19, as we were at the Hopewell Harvest Fair, surrounded by the golden light of a perfect afternoon in downtown Hopewell Borough, I think I understood something more about what we're building here.
It's not really about the books. I mean, it's about the books. But it's also about this.
It's about my husband, who shows up every single time, hauling everything and believing in this dream as loudly as I do. It's about our unpaid interns, who keep coming back for no reason other than love and a genuine belief in literacy and joy. There is no amount of money that explains why Heather, Sarah, and Kate are there. Or why Marna or my mom-in-law visit the book studio to help me bundle books. Only heart does.
It's about Maria from Fairgrown Farm, and Julie from Arts Sparks, and Mary from Sourland Bread, and Diane from Treasure Trove — and so many others who make Hopewell feel like a community that chose each other.
The question I heard most at the Harvest Fair was: "Where can I find you?"
And honestly? I'm still working on my answer.
Right now I say: I pop up at markets. I'll be at Hopewell Farmers Market, and I have more events coming. And I'm online. And I watch people nod and smile and sometimes pull out their phones.
But I feel the incompleteness of it. Because what they're really asking is: how do I find this again? The feeling of holding something wrapped with care. The surprise. The trust that someone chose this book specifically for a reader like them.
I don't have a storefront yet. But I have something real. And I think that's worth saying out loud.
If you were at the Hopewell Harvest Fair this past weekend, thank you! For stopping, for asking, for the conversations that ran long and the ones that ended with a bundle tucked under your arm.
You are why this is beautiful.
And if you weren't there, please come find us. We'll be at Hopewell Farmers Market, and the events keep coming this fall.
The packaging is pretty. But you, this community, are the most beautiful part.
